Tip #1 Clean - sounds pretty simple right, straight up, clean. Throw away trash, items you don't need, wipe down areas, disinfect, etc.
Tip #2 Organize - "Everything has a home." that's what I say. For example let's take your closet, everything should have a category. A space for you tops, pants, belts, socks, you get the point. Be sure to create categories and make a home for every item in its dedicated category.
Tip #3 Simplify - This means, if you don't need it, donate it. If you haven't used it in the last six months, donate it. If you feel like someone could find more use out of it, donate it. (hint, save money and energy on hauling services and put unwanted stuff curbside and post under "free" on craigslist and watch the magic happen! karma points :)
